Jim (Joe)'s Story

Life I met my Spouse Five years after high school on a blind date. We are now over our 55 th. It has been a hoot My Job I cant believe they paid me for what I did. Being a Professor was the best job in the world and as a Business Prof they wanted us to keep current with what is going on in industry so encouraged us to do consulting. So I did lost of work for Honda Canada, Ford Motors, Revenue Canada, Ameritch etc, They also liked the idea of us writing research papers ( I did lots of them) and textbooks (I did two) so I spent many a month up at my wiledrness cabin with my wife doing just that. Having solar power up there I was able to use my computer and had limited telecomunications. What a life. I am now retired and find I am ven better at this retirement thing than I was as a consultant and professor. Life is good.. Daniel Mac In grade 10 I did not have a language so I was put in Mrs Metcalfs class which instead of a language we were taught typing. The group in the class was a roudy bunch and the teacher had problems handling us. She would buy us ice cream when we were good as there were many instances of fighting where she would panic and call the p...Expand for more
rincipal. I never used typing after leaving high school as I worked at Greater winnipeg gas for years. I went back to school (actually started University under the mature students program with a reference from the high school gym teacher Mr. Potter). To make a Long story even longer I finally got my undergrad degree and quit my job and went to graduate school. My wife supported us during that time and after getting my phd at 39 years old I got a job as a professor. Finished school at 17 and became a professor at 39. As a professor there were reseach papers to write and I also wrote a few textbooks. Guess what? I finally used my typing skills and to my suprise I still had that skill albiet a little rusty. It has been a great ride. What do I do for relaxation WE have a cabin in the boonies. You need to travel 11 miles by a trail not a road then by water for another 10 miles to get to it and our nearest neighbor is 2 miles away. Spent many a month up there writing and just relaxing. Life off the grid is a good life. We have had solar power there since the early 90's so I am able to use my computer although no cell service or internet.......which is a good thing.
